Concern for Accidentally Funding Terrorism through State Welfare

Recently, the governor of Maine directed his state’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to investigate any links between immigrants who have received welfare assistance and the possibility that they have terrorist proclivities.  A similar concern has materialized in Europe, after it was revealed that five of the terrorists involved in this year’s attacks may have benefited from government welfare programs.  Not only do terrorists benefit from the irony that taxpayers, whom they plan to attack, fund their pursuits, but the requisite preparation time for committing their atrocities is consequently shortened.
